Information regarding the Annual LibreOffice Conference 2017 - Roma, Italy
Florian Effenberger by Florian Effenberger @
Hello,

here are some more details on Tuesday's community meetings.

The good news: There is still space left for more meetings! ;-) So, in
case you want to spontaneously organize something, please talk to us at
the venue, or write us at [hidden email]
and we can check the availability of rooms.

*** NOTE *** IMPORTANT *** NOTE *** IMPORTANT ***

Be advised that on Tuesday, the venue will be open from 1400 to
approximately 1900. Entry before 1400 therefore is *not* possible on
Tuesday.

*** NOTE *** IMPORTANT *** NOTE *** IMPORTANT ***

For the currently planned meetings, see my previous message: "At 1500, a
private Board of Directors meetings, whose minutes will be made public
afterwards. At 1700, a meeting of the Engineering Steering Committee,
whereas I don't know whether that is public or not. I assume it's
public, but I lack knowledge about that."

Looking forward to meeting you in Berlin,
Florian

Hello,

another question was about the soup that we will provide for lunch. We
unfortunately can *not* guarantee that it is a vegan soup, it's only
sure that it is a vegetarian soup.

Best is to ask the caterer at the venue. Sorry that I have no more
details on this right now.

Hi all,

I find little to no information about the community
meetings on tuesday. Will they be all day? Is there a list
of participants for the different groups? Perhaps with
time of arrival?

Cheers,
Björn

Hi all,

this is a quick mail to inform you about the start of a
new icon test. Please participate and spread the word
about it widely. Last time we only had 12 femal
participants - we can do better than that :)

More details in my blog:

Hello,

for those who don't know yet, there also exist several official
LibreOffice IRC channels at Freenode. We propose that during the
conference, if you want to get in touch with others, you simply connect to

        irc.freenode.net
        at channel #libreoffice

Chances are you meet many community contributors there! ;-) For your
convenience, here's also a quick and handy link:

        irc://irc.freenode.net/libreoffice

Looking foward to seeing you in Berlin,
Florian (IRC nickname: floeff)

Simon Phipps by Simon Phipps @
*tl;dr summary*:  I propose the LibreOffice Conference appoint someone to
oversee inclusiveness and offer confidence harassment will be addressed in
the unlikely event it happens.

*Detail*
Attending conferences in the USA over the last year, I have frequently
heard requests for conferences to have a policy statement to protect
attendees from harrassment of various kinds by other attendees. My
observation is these policies are hard to draft in a way that is inclusive
to the needs of all attendees and non-alienating; indeed, I have observed
some attempts at such policies themselves unwittingly alienating groups
within the conference. I believe it's important for the LibreOffice
conference that we create a welcoming and safe environment for all kinds of
attendees, so rather than attempting a detailed policy statement I'd like
to propose something different.

I suggest designating a "Conference Moderator", who can provide a safe
haven for those of us with concerns about some aspect of the conference and
a trusted advocate to take whatever steps are possible to address problems
if they arise. I thus propose the following:

   1. Add a statement such as the following to the conference web site:
"The LibreOffice community is welcoming, diverse and international. This
strength can sometimes bring with it different approaches to interaction
that are unfamiliar and even occasionally unwelcome. We all have different
comfort zone boundaries and many of us find it good to have a friend stand
along side us when these boundaries are crossed for whatever reason.  If
there's any aspect of the event that makes you feel uncomfortable, and you
don't feel you can discuss it directly with those responsible or that just
walking away is an acceptable solution, the Conference Moderator will
discuss it with you in an accepting manner and act on your behalf to bring
about a resolution if appropriate. For this year's conference, the Document
Foundation Board has asked <name> to act as Moderator. Please contact
   <name>  either in-person or via <e-mail address> or <phone number>. <name>
is authorised by the Board to take whatever steps are necessary to address
any inappropriate actions during the conference."
   2. Ask the Document Foundation Board to seek and appoint a Moderator.
   3. Mention this arrangement in administrative remarks during the
   conference.

I believe this approach balances the need for community oversight with
the recognition of our mutual differences. All the same, I doubt I've got
it right first time and I'd welcome improvements to this proposal.

Best regards,

Simon

Hi all

I'm working for the Hungarian national FLOSS competence center, under
the Hungarian Ministry of public administration. Our task is to
introduce free software into Hungarian public institutions.

Several of our colleagues will attend the LO conference, and since we
were founded just this summer, we would love to meet people working in
similar competence centers or generally with public administrations. We
are interested in talking about what and how do you do or not do. Of
course, the beer will be on us.

Regards
Gabor Kelemen

Hi,

I am attending LibreOffice Conference and I am looking for connections in
India. If you are from India or have connections with great
F/OSS-developers there, or great C/C++-developers in the vicinity of New
Delhi I would gladly invite you for some beers and talk business.

Best Regards,
Niklas Andersson

Dear speakers,
Dear guests,

just a few more days, and the LibreOffice Conference 2012 in Berlin will
start - everyone from the organizational committee is very much
anticipating this major event! We're now in the final round of
preparations, and look forward to an exciting conference, with lots of
interesting talks and workshops.

*** IMPORTANT *** PLEASE READ *** IMPORTANT *** PLEASE READ ***

(0) If you reply to this e-mail, you reply to a public mailing list.
(See below.)

(1) Please bring a valid photo ID to Berlin, ideally a passport. Due to
security regulations at the ministry, this is mandatory for entering the
venue. Even if we know you personally, without a valid photo ID, the
ministries security personnel will refuse you entering.

(2) Due to the mandatory security checks, please plan in enough time
when entering the venue. In a word: Arrive early - if the queues are
long, it might take you up to an hour to pass security, especially on
the first day.

(3) Please note that smoking is not allowed in the building.

(4) To all speakers: We plan to not only have a video archive from the
conference, but also do live streaming. All talks and workshops will be
made available to the general public free of charge as audio and video,
together with a copy of the slides. If you do not want to have your talk
recorded, or your slides published, please tell the organizers in advance.

(5) To all speakers: Please send your conference slides to
[hidden email] after your talk, unless you
object to having it published. We'd like to make as many slides
available to the general public as possible.

(6) The admission fee for the conference is 10 €, from which which we
provide you catering and your welcome pack. Please make sure you've paid
via PayPal or bank transfer prior to the conference.

***************************************************************

We will subscribe all of you to our conference mailing list,
[hidden email]. This is a public mailing list, open
to everyone. All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived
and cannot be deleted, so please don't send in any confidential data.

This mailing list will also be the main communication channel during the
conference. In case we have important news, like a change in the
schedule, this is the place where we will inform you instantly and reliably.

Everyone will get a printed schedule with the welcome bag. A digital
version for downloading to your tablets, smartphones and notebooks is
already available at http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:LiboCon2012.pdf

Information about the venue, planned activities and Berlin at large is
available at http://conference.libreoffice.org

We were able to organize a catering during the conference. For lunch, we
will offer a vegetarian soup, with meat to be added by those who want.
During the afternoon break, we will serve coffee, cake and cookies. Soft
drinks will be provided during the conference.

There will be a public wifi available, the login credentials will be
handed out at the venue. Due to the nature of a crowded conference,
there is no guaranteed bandwith, but we try to provide a stable and
reliable connection. If you have a business-critical need for internet
connectivity, please bring in your own 3G modem and SIM card.

Reasonable and approved travel expenses for speakers and attending
members can be reimbursed on a case-by-case basis. Please bring your
travel documents and invoices to the conference for easier processing.
Keep in mind that our funds are very limited, and travel reimbursement
is limited to those who have no other sponsor, and cannot afford the
trip on their own. Depending on the amount, not all funding requests can
be considered, or have to be cut down at a certain amount. All details
you should read before asking for travel refund are available at
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies, where you will also
find the address to request funding (see the paragraph "Refunding via TDF").
