Information regarding the Annual LibreOffice Conference 2017 - Roma, Italy
Gordon Guthrie by Gordon Guthrie @
Folks

I'm coming through to the Libre Office Conference next week for the
first time, yay!

I am coming for a couple of reasons.

There are very few people in the world who write spreadsheet software
and I would like to meet other people who do  - instead of being the
freak at Tech Events :(

But also, more seriously, we have a next-generation spreadsheet server written:
http://vixo.com

It is not really a competitor with Libre Office as it is pure web. But
it does implement 150 Libre Office compatible functions. I know that
Michael Meeks is working on a Libre Office rival to Office365 - but
that still has to have an offline mode (I presume?).

One of our challenges is how do we get distribution - what is the road
to a million users. One of our former employees went on to work at
CouchDB and is now at Mozilla - so there is one camp saying we should
consider open source.

We have another camp (investor-led) going: "No, no, no, hey wait, what
about MySQL? Erk, yes, no, yes, no, aargh!".

So I am also looking to pick people's brains on the subject of open
sourcing: pros, cons, how to go about it, partnerships, incubation,
etc.

But also it will be fun to talk about Excel-compatible error handling,
implementing number formats properly and other fun tech stuff.

So if anyone is happy to spare some time to talk to me about these
things please send me an e-mail.

In return I am happy to spend some time 'under the hood' showing some
of the cool tech we use and how we do stuff, again email me.

Looking forward to it.

Cheers

Gordon

PS and it is my first time in Berlin as well! (teenage son on half
term is very excited!).

Hello,

who of you is joining UbuCon, which takes place directly after LibOCon?
I just spotted that you need to register and pay a small fee for UbuCon
until this Friday, so keep that in mind. :)

Dear  All:
It is necessary for all online office interoperability
with each other. Do you think so ?
What I want to do,is not to design a product for my own
company. I just want to , between all online office websites, it can send
documents quickly. Such as ,Google Docs can send documents to Microsoft
Office 365 quickly,  and directly . But now , Google Docs can only send
documents using email (SMTP) to Hotmail.    So i think HTTP(SPDY) is better
than SMTP  for transfer online office documents  ?  So we  should suggest
,IBM Docs and Office 365 ,Acobat.com  use the same protocol.
The second thing I want to do ,all online office interoperability .
your know , for native office, an Microsoft Office 2010 document  should
be open and reedit by an Openoffice.org user , it means native office
interoperability.    Then for the cloud office, it also need
interoperability.
So let us do this thing together! As I know ,you are great man and
warmhearted!  ?This thing is charitable. Thanks !
Please see more details in my email attachments! or via a web site:
http://online-office-interoperability.blogspot.com/
   Best Regards!

Hello everyone,

just about one more week, and this years' LibreOffice Conference takes
place in Berlin. I would like to remind you that the *deadline* for the
registration ends tomorrow,

        Monday, October 8th, 2012, at 21:59 UTC

If you want to attend the conference, and didn't register so far, we
urge you to do so within the deadline at

        http://conference.libreoffice.org/registration

The LibreOffice Conference 2012 takes places in a public building of
German ministries, and without proper registration, you can *not* enter
the event. So, in your own interest, please ensure you meet the deadline.

In case you do not want to attend the conference yet, I'd like to
advertise a bit more. :) Our program committee has invested lots of time
to make this conference an unforgettable, noteworthy event, and we are
proud to have a program with a vivid mixture of development, community,
marketing, infrastructure and many other working areas of the
LibreOffice project:

        http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:LiboCon2012.pdf

Last but not least, this is your chance to meet the faces behind the
LibreOffice community: developers, marketeers, admins, localizers,
documentation writers, designers and many, many more. We'll all have a
great time in Berlin, and want you to be a part of it!

Taking place at the conference center of the Federal Ministry of
Economics and Technology (BMWi), and sponsored by leading players
Canonical, Google and SerNet, it is not only the annual gathering of the
worldwide community, but also meeting point for governmental and
corporate adopters and innovators.

Looking forward to meeting you in Berlin!

Moin,

wie wird das eigentlich mit den Badges laufen - am 9.10. extrahiert
die jemand aus'm Plone, und mailt die ans Ministerium? In welchem
Format?

 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/Developers#Individuals

abzugleichen, ggf. Erlaubnisse einzuholen und das ganze in das
Spreadsheet (oder was auch immer Transportformat ist) einzupflegen.

Viele Grüße,

Hello,

the current conference program foresees a welcome speech from TDF officials.

Since at least on the very first day, we also have some governmental
officials at the venue, my plan is to deliver that speech in dual
language, i.e. a sentence in German, then translating that into English,
"live". I think I should be able to do so, even without notes.

What do you think about that? Is this rather annoying, or a good idea?
The conference language is English, so are the talks, but I wanted to
make an exception for the welcome speech.

Hi *,

I've still to book for some rooms.
(I do this late on purpose, so that I do not have the risk to book for
the week before the conference ;-) * )

Any advise on accommodations that I should choose, to meet or avoid
certain hackers ;-)

thanks,
Cor

FYI:

The LibreOffice conference is running back to back with the
Ubucon in the same city, so it might be interesting esp. for
german-speaking visitors to stay a bit longer for that
conference. More information is available at: http://ubucon.de
