LO 6.2.x save dialog on Linux

Does anyone on the list, whether from the DF or a user, know if there
are plans to improve the save dialog?

As it stands, at least on Linux, separate partitions and connected
drives are no longer shown in the dialogue. Saving to such a partition
or drive means navigating there through the root directory. I know that
it is possible to save the location, but this does not help if you are
saving to a new or infrequently used external device.

If needed I will file a request for enhancement because the one step
forward for cloud users brought several steps back for connected
drives.

What Linux are you using, and what version of LibreOffice are you using?

I use Ubuntu Mate 18.04 and LO 6.2.4.2.

I plugged in a thumb drive and a 2T USB drive.  As long as they are
mounted, I have no problems Saving files to it. I do not have to go up
through to "root" to get to the file system / media / user / device
folder / data file - the hard way. The dialog to save the file looks a
lot like the Caja file manager dialog for saving.

Since we cannot include graphics here, I placed a JPG file on one of my
domains that shows you what mine looks like.

http://lungstrom.com/holding/LO-save-screen.jpg

There use to be an option in earlier versions of LO [I think] that asks
if you wanted to use LO's file manager for load/save or the system's
file manager.  I do not see dialog in this version.

Thanks for the reply and screenshot. This now seems to be a
distribution/DE issue as you have exactly what is missing here: a list
of drives and partitions. It is somewhat similar to the dialog box on
6.0.1.x running under XFCE that I just looked at.

Here is the current save dialog from Mageia 7 running Enlightenment:

https://c.gmx.com/@558252282525778603/0X9cLX6zRoqnWgsewkw6jA

I will check further in Mageia, but would be curious to hear if others
see variations based on DE, etc. I should also have thought of
downloading the rpm from the DF to see how it behaves.

Thanks again for the feedback.

I have now done my homework and here is a link to the variants for the
save dialog in LO:

https://c.gmx.es/@558252282525778603/0X9cLX6zRoqnWgsewkw6jA

Examples for LO-6.2.4.2 are all from Mageia 7, the Enlightenment-22
desktop installed, Plasma and XFCE in the live beta. The rpm of LO-
6.2.4.2 from the Document Foundation running on E22 (not shown) is the
same as the Mageia version.

The problem can be seen in the E22 and Plasma live dialogs where one
has to navigate to get to an externally connected device. An installed
version of Plasma may be better, but clearly the XFCE live (and a
Fedora Cinnamon live I looked at) are far superior.

There is a screenshot of LO-6.3-beta1 which fixes the problem for E22.

Which dialogue box style have you selected?

Under Tools|Options|LibreOffice|general you get the option to choose
LO-style dialogues.

If I pick 'LO-style' I see what you appear to be describing; clearing
that checkbox gives a more sensible (IMO) dialogue box.

(LO 5.1.6.2 on Mint Sylvia)

Thanks, Mike, but there is no such setting in LO-6.2.3.2. If you would
like to follow this, there is an active bug report . . .:

Re: LO 6.2.x save dialog on Linux

LibreOffice no longer offers custom open and save dialog boxes and instead
rely on the OS support dialogs.

Re: LO 6.2.x save dialog on Linux

To follow up with the last email.

Recently I added KDE to my Linux desktop (had been using Gnome) and with
that the file manage switched to Dolphin.  Dolphin out of the box had
nothing setup for the usual directory links, but it was easy enough to add
them one time and after that the save dialog picks all of those up. So
after a couple minutes what I had when ran under Gnome is also there under
KDE.

It is hidden - for a reason unclear to me - in the expert configuration
settings.

Both the system and the internal have their advantages. I still struggle
with keyboard use of the system one (Ubuntu Gnome), so I prefer the
internal one.

Thanks, Drew. The problem is that I have been using LO in E for over
two years so nothing should have changed on my system. However, Cor
came up with the answer.

Perfect, that did it. Someone mentioned this in the bug report, but
without specifying which variable specifically. I now have the dialog
that has been around since at least LO5 or before.

Yes, Cor, you should as your advice did the trick. I just updated the
report to note that the difference between the 6.2 and 6.3 releases is
the default setting on UseSystemFileDialog (false in the former, true
in the latter).
