LibreOffice Quickstarter Option

Hi all:

I'm reviewing the document draft Getting Start LibreOffice 6.0
Chapter 2 -Setting up.

I find in LO 6.0, in Menu-Tools -Options-General, the option
LibreOffice Quickstarter. As I understand this option is able only in
the version of LibreOffice for Windows. Is it correct ? Would you please
confirm ?

         I'm using LO 6.0 in Ubuntu 17.10.

Regards,

Jorge Rodríguez

Re: LibreOffice Quickstarter Option

AFAIK, this was doomed to be removed from Linux versions in 6.0, but
somehow remained there (I have this knowledge from translating release
notes - first there was the note that it was removed in 6.0 from Linux
versions, then this note was removed from release notes). However I do not
know if this is accurate and true for 6.0 on Linux ...

Re: LibreOffice Quickstarter Option

Hi Jorge,

Martin is correct about the proposal to remove QS from the Linux
edition, but I have tested LO 6.0.1.1 (deb & rpm) downloaded from TDF
servers and QS is still there and fully functional. The same might not
always be true for all distro provided editions, but I suggest you
include QS as an option under Linux.

Regards
Dave

Re: LibreOffice Quickstarter Option

Hi Jorge

The quick start option allows to load LibreOffice DLL's (= libraries) at
computer initialization time (boot). It may take a bit more time to
initialize the computer but when you open LibreOffice it should be
faster, because the libraries are already loaded in memory.

However, with modern computers full of memory and fast processors, this
option is almost useless.

Kind regards
Olivier

Re: LibreOffice Quickstarter Option

In reply to this post by Olivier Hallot-4
Hi Olivier and all:

Thank you for the answer, it clear to me about this issue. I
supposed that for Linux has the same performance, ... find LO in the
Linux boot to be ready after that and when the user run LO it comes
faster than usual.

About modern computer, it is relative, because I have a pc with
4 processors and 8GB of memory, and usually when I run LO the first
time, it take some seconds to start.

By the way, probably if we check this option on Linux, Mac or
Windows, the boot would use more time (some seconds or more), than if we
haven't checked the option.

Regards,

Jorge Rodríguez

Re: LibreOffice Quickstarter Option

In reply to this post by Olivier Hallot-4
Loading libraries is true for Windows only, Linux just shows the icon and LibreOffice starts per click (it likely doesn't work in all scenarios since the system tray has changed and is in transition). Whether or not to remove this feature was discussed in ESC but refused by the users [1,2]. Issues around the quickstarter are collected under the meta ticket [3]. The removal was planned and added to the release notes but never realized.

Whether or not to remove this feature was discussed in ESC but refused by the users [1,2]. Issues around the quickstarter are collected under the meta ticket [3].
