[Libreoffice-qa] [ANN] LibreOffice 3.5.2 RC2 test builds available

Hi *,

for the upcoming new version 3.5.2, the RC2 builds now start to be
available on pre-releases. This build is slated to be second release
candidate build on the way towards 3.5.2, please refer to our release
plan timings here:

  http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan#3.5_release

Builds are now being uploaded to a public (but non-mirrored - so don't
spread news too widely!) place, as soon as they're available. Grab
them here:

  http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/pre-releases/

If you've a bit of time, please give them a try & report *critical*
bugs not yet in bugzilla here, so we can incorporate them into the
release notes. Please note that it takes approximately 24 hours to
populate the mirrors, so that's about the time we have to collect
feedback.

The list of fixed bugs relative to 3.5.2 RC1 is here:

http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/pre-releases/src/bugfixes-libreoffice-3-5-2-release-3.5.2.2.log

So playing with the areas touched there also greatly appreciated - and
validation that those bugs are really fixed.

Thanks a lot for your help,

Fridrich

Re: [Libreoffice-qa] [ANN] LibreOffice 3.5.2 RC2 test builds available

I can't believe that 3.5.2 is going to be released with Slideshow completely ruined for all Windows users...

This is a regression against 3.5.0 introduced in version 3.5.1

Doesn't anybody care about the bad image this projects?

A simple patch to turn hardware acceleration off by default wouldn't
have be to hard ?

That is an "aspirin solution". That would hide the symptoms instead of curing the disease.
And once it is hidden it usually gets forgotten...

If Hardware Acceleration is not important then it's okay to do that. But it must be, otherwise it wouldn't be activated by default, right?

:-) lets not conclude that. The purpose of the RC's is to find horrible
bugs that havn't been noticed yet.

> This is a regression against 3.5.0 introduced in version 3.5.1

It's a shame that (somehow) the priority of this was not set
sufficiently high that anybody noticed when looking through the most
annoying bugs I guess. It's a bad bug & regression too, but only marked
'major'.

> Doesn't anybody care about the bad image this projects?

Sure :-) luckily it is a really trivial bug to fix - it looks (to me)
like the same bug as bug#45584 - Thorsten: dudie - you fixed only 1/2 a
blocker bug symptom (ie. only for Mac) :-)

Did anyone verify that the version info is updated (re the secunia
reports problem)
http://ask.libreoffice.org/question/1459/secunia-psi-reports-insecure
also on the mailinglists)

i.e. version info of soffice.exe, not the one in the about dialog.

ciao

I didn't check that and now I can't have access to the installer at

it only shows the help packs. Was the installer removed?

Hi all,

I think Secunia has already fixed the numbering so that the warning it gone for version 3.5.1.

But the Version number in the file Properties for 3.5.2rc2 is now 3.5.0.202 instead of 3.5.2.2

Unless there is an rc3 and this is fixed meanwhile LO is going to get a bad image with Secunia (and all the security minded people :) )

Personally I couldn't care less about Secunia but since it only takes a small number change, I think it would be worth the effort :)

Pedro

Why could it cause bad image? IMHO, it was bug on the Secunia side and
it is fixed now. We used this version scheme also for LO-3.4 and nobody
complained.

> Personally I couldn't care less about Secunia but since it only takes
> a small number change, I think it would be worth the effort :)

It looks trivial but it is not. We would need to do clean build for all
systems, upload them to mirrors, restart smoketests, ... So, this change
would delay the release by many days.

Also, it is potentially dangerous. The version is defined and used on
many locations. Any change could cause strange side effects. Also there
are many scripts around that depends on a certain version scheme. So, we
should not change this between rc2 and rc3 if there is not a big reason.

Well, I agree that 3.5.0.202 is ugly. We are discussion to use the more
reasonable version scheme 3.5.2.2 now, see
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice/2012-April/029263.html
If it goes well, we might try it for 3.5.3 release.

Best Regards,
Petr

A bug on the Secunia side that LO version 3.5.1 and 3.5.2 are named 3.5.0? I have to disagree...

As I mentioned in a previous email, it was NOT the same in 3.4.x:  e.g. 3.4.6 was named named 3.4.602
It wasn't correct but it was visibly similar (the number after the second point is the same) and the numbers were increasing on the correct group (third group)

As I mentioned before since version 3.5.0 was wrongly named 3.5.0rc3 and 3.5.1 named 3.5.0.102 it would be great to get  a correct 3.5.x release...

Hopefully, it will be correct for 3.5.3 ;)

Hmm, where do you see the version 3.5.0 and 3.4.602? I can't find it
anywhere. I checked name of the installer, about dialog and output from
libreoffice --version. So, I am confused.

Re: [ANN] LibreOffice 3.5.2 RC2 test builds available

Hi Petr, all

I'm glad to announce that the version number in the binary files now matches the About dialog information under Windows!!!

This has been committed both to the 3.5 and 3.6 branch so it will be available in the next RC (and Beta).

I have confirmed this with a daily build from the 3.5 branch
http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/Win-x86@15-Prague_Win32/libreoffice-3-5/2012-04-10_06.59.39/

Thank you!

I think this was not cherry-picked or whatever you call it to master.

I can see exactly the same problem in version 3.6.0alpha0+  (Build ID: 8a78020) and it is fixed by disabling Hardware acceleration.

Should I REOPEN the bug?

The problem is that we disabled it in the release build configuration
file. If the tinderbox is buidling without using the configuration
file, the defaults apply and it seems that cairo canvas is part of the
defaults. We should just disable that for windows I guess.

Such tinderboxen will start failing soon I suppose, so it'd be good to
try to unwind the per-platform default in configure.in I guess.
