[Libreoffice-qa] Online update testing

Hi Klaus-Juergen, all,

I'd like to ask you test the online update a bit.  I had to do some
larger changes in order to be able to update the 3.5 line to 3.5.6, so
now it explicitly preselects 3.5.6 for you, when you try to update from
an older version.

The 3.6 update (from the previous RC's, for example) should lead you to
the generic download page.

Please let me know should you find any trouble :-)

Thank you,
Kendy

3.5.4.2 leads to 3.5.6
3.5.5.3 leads to 3.5.6
3.5.6.1 leads to 3.5.6
3.6.0.2 leads to 3.6.0
3.6.0.0 beta3 tells "LOdev 3.6.0 ist verfügbar". The download-button
leads to the main download page for 3.6.0
3.6.1.1 says "aktueller Stand" and so leads to nothing.

The 3.6.1.1 doesn't lead to 3.6.1.2.

I want to remember:
There is no update call from version 3.6.1.1 to official 3.6.1.

It should be fixed now. Please test and report if it does not work.

Hi Kendy

Version 3.5.7.2 was announced two days ago but 3.5.7.1 still reports that "LibreOffice 3.5 is up to date."

Is this a normal delay or is it still updated manually?

The version 3.5.7 has not yet been released. 3.5.7.2 is still RC2 not
final, therefore current version from 3.5 branch is still 3.5.6.

Best regards.

You are correct. I forgot that rc versions are only notified in the 3.6 branch. In branch 3.5 only final versions were considered for updates.

However the version numbering problem reported here still remains
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46354

The current message I get is

"LibreOffice 3.6.2 is available.
The installed version is LibreOffice 3.6.2.1."

Sorry - I've not published the ESC minutes yet; Kendy is pulling the
lever to upgrade 3.5.0-3 to 3.6.3 - and we planned to wait a week to see
if there are any user-horror stories before promoting 3.6.3 to everyone
as the upgrade path.

        Does that make sense ?

I think that as there are quite a few regressions between 3.5 and 3.6 maybe the update path should be to 3.5.7 and provide the information that 3.6.3 which is considered recommended by TDF is available and provide a link. Maybe nagging people to switch from 3.5.x to 3.6.3 is too premature?

In any case I believe there should be a "stable channel" and "beta/development/QA channel" for updates as in Mozilla, as suggested here
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48369

This would allow any user to choose the QA channel to be notified of 3.6.4 rc1 or 3.7.0 rc3 regardless if the installed build is a stable or an rc build

Just my usual 2 cents :)

Best,
Pedro

Hi all,

for me most of 3.6.3 works very well, but for users like me using
spreadhseets with (lots of) conditional formatting "Bug 56316 - EDITING:
CONDITIONAL FORMATTING not included in copy-paste cell"
  <https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56316>
unfortunately makes LibO 3.6.3 unusable (I still have 3.5.7. as default
LibO because of that problem). There have been many problems with
conditional formatting, and it seems the mess is not over yet (Bug 55673
- CONDITIONAL FORMATTING duplicates not visible)
<https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55673>

So I think the consideration whether we should recommend update is not easy.

All the best

Rainer

3.6.3 isn't in the online update yet.

Is it possible that someone with no developer skills can make such changes?

Should be fixed now, sorry :-(

> Is it possible that someone with no developer skills can make such changes?

Anybody with a basic .php knowledge is able to do that :-) - it is
enough to do:

# only once, to prepare the repository where you will do the changes
git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/website update
cd update
git checkout -b update origin/update

# for every new version
git pull -r    # to get the newest repo
vim check.php  # or your another favorite text editor
# do a change like
# http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/website/commit/?h=update&id=883494dc52ed9aebe8b6072a52d047d7b075bbdc
# ie.:
# - add previous version(s) to $update_versions array
#   (in the case of 3.6.4, you should uncomment the line under "To be
#   uncommented when 3.6.4 Final is out", plus add 3.6.4 RC1)
# - put the gitid of the current version (that we should update to) to
#   'gitid' of the appropriate entry in the $update_map array
# - update the 'id' and 'version' of that entry too

To get the gitid, open the About dialog of the appropriate version (RC1
and final), and copy the gitid from there.

# test it in shell, run something like:

HTTP_USER_AGENT='LibreOffice 3.5 (235ab8a-3802056-4a8fed3-2d66ea8-e241b80; Windows; x86; BundledLanguages=en-US af ar as ast be bg bn bo br brx bs ca ca-XV cs cy da de dgo dz el en-GB en-ZA eo es et eu fa fi fr ga gd gl gu he hi hr hu id is it ja ka kk km kn ko kok ks ku lb lo lt lv mai mk ml mn mni mr my nb ne nl nn nr nso oc om or pa-IN pl pt pt-BR ro ru rw sa-IN sat sd sh si sk sl sq sr ss st sv sw-TZ ta te tg th tn tr ts tt ug uk uz ve vi xh zh-CN zh-TW zu)' HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE=cs-CZ php5 ./check.php

Thanks for the description to do the update. I haven't had the time to

Ah, again! ;-)  Fixed now.

Sounds great :-) - and don't worry, pinging me is OK too.

Thank you,
Kendy

Ah, again! ;-)  Fixed now.
Two questions:

1) The update message reads
"LibreOffice 3.6.4 is available.
The installed version is LibreOffice 3.6.4.1."

Any chance that it could be changed to
"LibreOffice 3.6.4.3 is available.
The installed version is LibreOffice 3.6.4.1."

This would be coherent with the information in the final version About dialog...

2) I think you (or Michael) mentioned that it would be possible to update from 3.5.7 to 3.6.4? Version 3.5.7.2 still reports "LibreOffice 3.5 is up to date." Are there going to be any further updates on the 3.5.x branch?

Cheers,
Pedro
