Problem with formulas between Excel and LO

Hi,

We run Ubuntu at our school, Mellansels Folk High School, but our principal
creates lots of excel files that need to work in both environments. Our
time reporting file stopped working in the 4.0> LO update. We were unable
to figure out were the problem was. The problem arises after the first date
is inserted and it seems as if the formula that checks for date repetitions
and long hours disappears in the column that handles this. I am no
spreadsheet guru and have no idea how to find the fault. The thing that
surprised me was that the error was err:508 which, as far as I can see,
means that a bracket is missing but as this file worked on version 3
without error I don't think that is where the problem lies.

The file is in Swedish but I believe that the formulas will be in English
on a English system. To unlock the hidden columns and rows use the
password: Mellansel (I have permission to pass this on)

I hope you can assist me.

/ernie

Before update to LO40, the spreadsheet was accessible?

Has the principal changed m$ software or the file format of the spreadsheet?

The document appears to be a template file (suffix .xlt). No password
was requested to open the file.

I unlocked the cells and didn't notice any difference under LO 3.6.7.2 (the last 3.x version) and current LO 4.2.2.1 under Windows XP.

Can you describe step-by-step what you do, what results you get and what results you expect to get? Which steps are needed to get the err:508 message?

Hi.
This opens in my LO 3 without an error, but I have no idea where to
start to enter some data to get the sheet to the condition you obtain an
error.
The sheet seems to need some values in A16 and C16 which are empty (both
0) by default.

The password is set at sheet level. If you try to deactivate sheet
protection, you will be asked for the password.

As for the rest, well, I don't speak Swedish, and can barely understand
some of the cell headers, let alone the error messages.

One thing appears certain, the sheet requires entry of basic data in
some cells, without which the rest of the sheet can not function. As we
don't know what that data might be, we're a bit stuck with helping to
determine whether there is a problem or not :-)

I agree, we need some pointers from the original poster, unless someone
who speaks Swedish can sort it out.

Possibly even more than just A16 and C16, although I haven't checked all
of the basic cells that don't reference a formula.

As probably none, or at least not many of us, are proficient enough in
Swedish to understand what is supposed to go where, can you give us some
pointers ?

In which cell is the first date supposed to be entered ?
What other minimum set of values need to be entered in order for the
sheet to actually display anything meaningful ?

Problem was solved by private mail with the original poster.

I couldn't replicate the problem in Windows XP and apparently it was no longer a problem in 4.2.2.1 under Ubuntu 12.04

In any case this lead to finding another bug which I already reported
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76274

Thank you all (in behalf of Ernie) :)
