[libreoffice-l10n] IMPOWER function?

https://translations.documentfoundation.org/hr/libo_ui/scaddins/source/translate.html#unit=29745986

Why is "integer" power mentioned in english string?
As I understand and by looking at support article on Microsoft Excel
help pages, you can use any power number, for example integer(eg. 3),
decimal (eg. 0,5 or 1/2 fraction) or negative (eg. -3).
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/impower-function-HA102752983.aspx?CTT=5&origin=HA102752955

Does integer here stands for "whole number" without decimals or
something else?

Also, result of this formuladoesn't follow default decimal separator for
language in use.
For example, if you apply this formula:
=IMPOWER("2+3i";1/2)

Result is:
1.67414922803554+0.895977476129838i

When for croatian locale it should be:
1,67414922803554+0,895977476129838i

Best regards,
Mihovil

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] IMPOWER function?

It´s true. Even the ODF Formula standarts state it so.

"Returns the complex number X raised to the Yth power."

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] IMPOWER function?

I'll translate it without "integer" in croatian then, but english string
should be corrected.

Best regards,
Mihovil

The issue on the locale happens with py-BR which also uses commas for
decimal separation and dots for thousands.
Linux, LibreOffice 4.0.4, pt-BR locale.

And another mistake:

Word "interest" doesn't belong here.

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] IMPOWER function?

Hi :)
The note under it makes more sense;
"Returns the serial number of the date that is a specified number of months before or after the start date"

So the user specifies a time-interval and this function tells you what the date would be after you give it the start date?

I'm not sure i could find a simpler way of saying it than that and my way and the note looks quite horrible.
Good luck!  Regards from
Tom :)

Fw: [libreoffice-l10n] YearFrac NOT IMPOWER function

Hi :)
Sorry!  I think i should have broken my last response into a new thread.  We were no longer talking about IMPOWER.  I think we had started talking about YearFrac instead.

Apols and regards from

Tom :)

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] IMPOWER function?

In reply to this post by Olivier Hallot
Hi :)
Looks right.  I'm guessing a few other locales have the same issue with commas and stops.
Regards from
Tom :)

Re: Fw: [libreoffice-l10n] YearFrac NOT IMPOWER function

In reply to this post by Tom
Yes, it's about YEARFRAC , but I don't see that sentence there.
YEARFRAC calculates time in YEARS between 2 dates.

So if you enter start date 1.1.2013 / end date 1.7.2013, result will be
0,5 years because there is exactly 6 month (0,5 year) betweent those dates.

My report is for description of variable "Basis" which is optional variable.
In description there is word "interest" which doesn't belong.

It should be ignored by translators and deleted from english string.

Best regards,
Mihovil

https://translations.documentfoundation.org/hr/libo_ui/scaddins/source/analysis.po/translate/#unit=29746327

Re: Fw: [libreoffice-l10n] YearFrac NOT IMPOWER function

In reply to this post by Mihovil Stanic
Hi :)
It is just under the blue section, about half-way down this page
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/hr/libo_ui/scaddins/source/analysis.po/translate/#unit=29746327

I am not familiar with the work-flow nor the UI used by translators so i have no idea if that section of the page is meant to be useful.
Regards from
Tom

Hi,

I fixed the confusing text, but only in master, because there is string
freeze on the libreoffice-4-1 branch. The wrong text has been there
since 2004, so I think it is not extremely urgent to fix it in branches. :)
Your proofreading work is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Andras

Probably it worked with only integers when the help text was written.
Microsoft Excel help pages may be misleading, too, because they describe
Excel, not LibreOffice. The best it to make some experiments and read
the ODF specs. It seems that LibreOffice accepts real powers but not
complex powers. I fixed the help text accordingly in master. Thanks for
your bug report.

Best regards,
Andras

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] IMPOWER function?

One of collegues provided link to ODF pages which also doesn't say
anything about integer and formula is working with all types of numbers.

Thanks for changes.

Best regards,
Mihovil

Re: Fw: [libreoffice-l10n] YearFrac NOT IMPOWER function

In reply to this post by Andras Timar
Hi :)
Thanks :)  However it is other people that are doing the hard work of proof-reading tons of pages of this sort of thing and then flagging up the odd problems that have crept in over the years.

I can make suggestions quite easily because i happen to be a native English speaker.  It's not always an advantage because i don't always know the rules and i do make typos sometimes and my version of English is (GB) rather than (US) so prepositions are sometimes mixed up.  However it is great to see that i've been able to shake a few sentences up so that people on this list can get to a decent answer.

So, many thanks for your thanks but the thanks is really deserved by yourself and others here.  You are all doing a fantastic job and  that is very much appreciated.
Many thanks and regards from
Tom :)

Re: Fw: [libreoffice-l10n] YearFrac NOT IMPOWER function

In reply to this post by Andras Timar
Hi :)
Yes, if it's been wrong for 9 years then another 1 month or so is unlikely to cause major problems.  Fixing in Master sounds like the correction will automatically start to ripple out to everywhere it needs to be as soon as the freeze is over and then get translated as people get to it.  So, that all sounds good
Thanks and regards from
Tom :)
